A beautiful week ahead

Last Friday I uploaded another video to the website.

http://www.agreportsnetwork.com/cms/
(Kyle Wendland, Northeast Iowa)

I drove to St. Louis over the weekend to watch Northern Iowa play in the NCAA Tournament. (Good season Panthers). On the drive I saw two anhydrous applicators running in east central Iowa, but nothing any further south, and nothing happening in Missouri.

While I was gone Liddle (a tiling and excavating company) came and put in some tile for me. I have a 10 +/- acre pasture that will be getting torn up for the first time this spring, but had to wait for it to get the tile put in first.

The week ahead looks promising for picking rock, finish up hauling corn, and getitng some maintenance done on my equipment to be ready for spring. Although the weather is beautiful, I do not intend to plant any corn before April 15th, due to uncertainty going forward in the weather....it is still early. I recall planting beans one year on May 5th, and the ground got covered with snow.....which made it very easy to see the gauge marker.

Daylight brings....more flooding

Nothing surprising, rate of the creek rising has slowed, but it has not crested yet.
Here are a couple of pics from my drive to town....

As far as impact on agriculture in my area....Really in a way it is helping us in northern Iowa. The rain and warm weather is getting rid of the snow pack in record time, helping get the frost out of the ground, and warm the soil up (a little bit). The following link is to Iowa State 4 inch soil temps across the state. It is good to use when questioning planting decisions in the spring.

I did end up finding time to do a video yesterday afternoon for Ag Reports Network, the link is below.

Tis the season for some flooding.

With all the snow leaving in a hurry, this was expected....

This picture was taken at 6:30 this morning.

Same place, this picture was taken at noon today. Creek rising around an inch per hour.

And again same place, this picture taken at 5:30 p.m... Starting to worry me if it keeps this pace up.

Here are some pictures of some Bald Eagles playing in the creek.

These are pictures of my fields by my house.

Leave me a comment if anyone thinks I should do a video for the website to show more.
Thanks.

What a difference a week can make!

Here's the link to my new video this week. We lost at least 6" of snow pack in the field, and are supposed to have mid 40s for high all week and around an inch of rain. Feels like spring is coming in a hurry.

Snow Cover

We in the heartland are enjoying a week of slightly above freezing temperatures. Thirty-five is a small step, but when you have only broke it once in the last 90+ days, it is a start. I was even able to put my stocking cap away for a day.

This video was shot last Sunday, before the beautiful week we had.

I will do another video tomorrow (Sunday March 7) to show the change week over week.

I am beginning to get equipment out to prepare for spring, and also got my semi out since I have 15,000 bushel of corn to haul this month. With the roads ice-free now, it is a lot easier and safer to do so now.
